June 14, 2017admin

As promised, Yamaha delivered 180 high-tech golf carts to Jekyll Island on Thursday, including 160 carts with GPS and geo-fencing capabilities and 20 carts without GPS capabilities.

The new carts have 8” screens that can display course GPS, flyovers at the beginning of each hole and the McCormick’s Grill menu. Players can track shot distances and yardage on the fly. The carts’ ergonomic interior was designed by automotive interior specialists. Besides, there are also larger beverage coolers on the carts. For future upgrades, the carts may include electronic scoring.

Jekyll Island Golf Club selected Yamaha carefully as its lease agreement provider, according to Noel Jensen, senior director of the facilities and public services. The Yamaha carts have got unanimous approval from the club. As Yamaha rated the highest score among the 3 proposals submitted by Yamaha, Club Car and E-Z-Go, Jemsem even recommend to make an award to Yamaha at an authority board meeting in August.

Jekyll Island is quite excited to the arrival of these Yamaha golf carts, since they are just in time for both their Pine Lakes course to come back online and the 37th Annual Georgia-Florida Golf Classic next week.

What do these new golf carts mean to the Jekyll Island golf players?

Players will be able to track pace of play based on locations of the carts. Moreover, with flyover video and shot trackers, they can gauge and track yardage and gain in-depth understanding of the holes, which will bring about  faster rounds.
